Vikings Minkey

Vikings Minkey is modified-rules hockey for under 7 and under 9 year olds in the Tuggeranong region. The kids are grouped into friendship teams and spend an hour each Saturday morning during Terms 2 and 3 (the winter months) playing hockey at the Chisholm Playing Fields, in the heart of the Tuggeranong Valley. The first half-hour is set aside as a training session, with our qualified coaches taking teams through an accredited hockey skills program. The second half-hour is designated for teams to play against one another in a modified-rules hockey game, providing an opportunity for the children to utilise the skills they’ve learned during their earlier training session.

Vikings Minkey is a great environment for children to get involved in the sport of hockey. With over a hundred kids and parents banning together every Saturday morning to participate in an hour’s worth of fun and fitness, throw in a well-organised and supportive environment, and the aroma of a BBQ on the hill - what could be more enticing? We provide the relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere; uniforms; weekly awards; and most equipment; while you provide the kids and plenty of smiles! This is the nursery for Vikings Hockey (the largest hockey family in Canberra) and the only Minkey centre in the ACT that can offer such an array of facilities at one of our best amateur sporting grounds. With so much on offer, Vikings Minkey has to be your activity of choice for the winter months.

Minkey 2008

2008 Minkey commenced on the 1st Saturday in May, and what a huge success it was! Over 110 children participated on what turned out to be a glorious autumn day. If you missed out on registering, don’t panic! More opportunities to register are available, and it's as easy as filling in the attached form and sending it in ASAP.

While you’re at it, why not ask your friends and neighbours if they'd like to play - sometimes it simply takes an invitation! And if your child would like to play in the same team as their friends - it’s not a problem - just let us know (on the rego form or via email) and we'll look after it. The cost for the entire season is just $45.00, plus the odd drink or feast from the bbq. For those of you who are interested, we also have starter kits available for an additional $30.00, which include: a Grey’s hockey stick, mouth guard, Minkey-sized shin pads, a Minkey ball, and a bag to put it all into! If you'd like a Minkey starter kit, please let Carly (our Vikings Minkey Registrar) know so that she can organise one that is uniquely suited to your child.
